He is the author of A Time for Everything: The Kevin Zimmerman Story & has been awarded the Soldier's Medal, the highest honor that can be bestowed on a service member for an act of bravery when the nation is not declared at war, twice.

In 2012, the book was accepted into the U.S. Army’s Medical Museum and then seven months later it was added to the Smithsonian Institute.
