Arlene's boyfriend was, however, inspiration for both the hero and the jerk of an ex in Beauty and the Ballplayer, Arlene’s 2011 Romance Writers of America Golden Heart finalist (Contemporary Series category).

Had she won the Golden Heart, that tidbit would have been in her acceptance speech. (Beauty also won the 2010 Beacon contest, but no speech was required.)
