BEST FRIENDS: THERAPY WITH MARTINIS & MUNCHIES
Friendship isn’t one thing.
It’s a million little things.
And your BEST FRIEND is the person who knows all one million of them—
and still answers the phone.
A best friend is somebody you can call at three in the morning and say:
“I think I’ve ruined my life.”
And she says:
“Okay. What happened?”
Not:
“Do you know what TIME it is?”
That’s an acquaintance.
A best friend will listen to you whine about your weight, your husband, your children, your health, your job, and every other person on the planet...sometimes all before breakfast.
Basically, a best friend is a therapist…
who works for snacks.
Twenty years ago, when I wrote Thou Shalt Not Whine, I came up with the Top Ten Best Friends’ Whines:
Weight.
Spouses.
Other people.
Social life.
Children.
Holidays.
Supermarkets and cooking.
Work.
Health.
And class reunions.
THEN & NOW - 20 YEARS LATER
WE’RE STILL WHINING ABOUT THE SAME THINGS.
We’re just doing it with better medications.
